This study evaluated the effects of a commercially recommended concentration (1 mL/L) of a fungicide tebuconazole (TBZ) on testicular and epididymal histomorphometry of Artibeus lituratus, following 7 and 30-day oral exposure. TBZ30 bats showed a reduction in the percentage of tubules and seminiferous epithelium, as well as a decrease in tubule and epithelium somatic indexes, and tubular diameter. Inversely, these animals showed increased percentage of intertubular compartment, Leydig cells and blood vessels. The volume of Leydig cells and their number per gram of testis also increased in TBZ30 bats. Alterations in epididymal morphometry were observed in all regions of the organ, with increase of ductal diameter in both exposure times. These results indicate that exposure to low concentration of TBZ resulted in testicular and epididymal morphometric changes in fruit bats, mainly at 30-day exposure, suggesting that functional alterations might be occurring in these organs and impacting reproductive capacity.  相似文献

Abstract:  Introduction:  Peri-implant pathologies consist of an inflammatory process affecting the soft and hard tissues surrounding the implants. Chlorhexidine is considered the gold standard antiseptic, with a large variety of choice in administration. In this study, a protocol for the irrigation of peri-implant pockets with a chlorhexidine gel, using a plastic needle for the delivery of the product into the peri-implant pockets is described. Study participants and methods:  Nine patients with at least one implant presenting peri-implant pathology (inflamed soft tissue associated with bone loss around the implant) were enrolled in this prospective clinical study, and followed-up for 1 year, where clinical parameters such as modified plaque index, modified bleeding index, probing pocket depths, attachment levels were assessed at baseline, 1 month, and 1 year after implementation of the treatment protocol. Results:  Treatment success was achieved in eight of the nine patients (and in 11 of the 13 implants) according to the success criteria adopted by the authors of this study. Discussion:  Infection control lies at the heart of peri-implant treatment. The control of three factors such as optimal diagnosis, removal of the aetiological factor of the disease (proper removal of debris and decontamination of the peri-implant sulcus/pocket) and a good patient's oral hygiene self-care represents the key to success, resulting in good treatment outcomes when managing peri-implant pathologies. The protocol used (irrigation of peri-implant pockets with chlorhexidine gel delivered by a plastic needle) is considered to be of utility.  相似文献

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the amount of dentifrice applied to the toothbrush by school children using a liquid dentifrice (drop technique), when compared to toothpaste. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 178 school children (4-8 years old) from two cities in Brazil (Bauru and Bariri) participated in the present two-part crossover study. Children from Bauru received training regarding tooth-brushing techniques and use of dentifrice before data collection. In each phase, the amount of toothpaste or liquid dentifrice applied by the children to the toothbrush was measured, using a portable analytical balance (+ 0.01 g). Data were tested by analysis of covariance (Ancova) and linear regression (p < 0.05). RESULTS: The mean (+/- standard deviation) amounts of toothpaste and liquid dentifrice applied to the toothbrushes for children from Bauru were 0.41 +/- 0.20 g and 0.15 +/- 0.06 g, respectively. For children from Bariri, the amounts applied were and 0.48 +/- 0.24 g and 0.14 +/- 0.05 g, respectively. The amount of toothpaste applied was significantly larger than the amount of liquid dentifrice for both cities. Children from Bariri applied a significantly larger amount of toothpaste, when compared to those from Bauru. However, for the liquid dentifrice, there was no statistically significant difference between the cities. A significant correlation between the amount of toothpaste applied and the age of the children was verified, but the same was not found for the liquid dentifrice. CONCLUSION: The use of the drop technique reduced and standardised the amount of dentifrice applied to the toothbrush, which could reduce the risk of dental fluorosis for young children.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of Streptococcus mutans biofilm/restorative materials interaction on surface roughness, hardness and morphology of materials tested. METHODS: Empress 2 (E2), Filtek Supreme (FS), Vitremer (V) and Ketac Molar Easymix (KM) were tested. Twenty-five disks of each material were made and divided into three storage groups: (1) 100% relative humidity (n=5); (2) growth medium (BHI and 1% sucrose) (n=5); (3) S. mutans biofilm-growth medium (n=15). Before storage, hardness measurements were immediately obtained from group 1 specimens. After 30 days of storage, the specimens were cleaned in order to obtain the surface roughness and hardness values, besides morphology analysis by scanning electron microscopy. RESULTS: The surface roughness and hardness values obtained from E2 and FS specimens did not present statistically significant differences among the groups 1, 2 and 3 and between immediate and 30-day-old specimens of each material. However, group 3 specimens of V and KM showed statistically significant higher surface roughness means than other groups. Group 1 specimens of V and KM also showed higher hardness values than the immediate values. Group 3 specimens of V presented decreased hardness values compared with other groups. The scanning electron micrographs showed an increase in surface degradation from group 1 to group 3 for FS, V and KM. CONCLUSIONS: Thirty-day-old biofilm promotes a negative effect on the surface morphology of FS, V and KM, on the surface roughness of V and KM and on the hardness of V.  相似文献

This prospective longitudinal study assessed the 3D soft tissue changes following mandibular advancement surgery. Cranial base registration was performed for superimposition of virtual models built from cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) volumes. Displacements at the soft and hard tissue chin (n = 20), lower incisors and lower lip (n = 21) were computed for presurgery to splint removal (4-6-week surgical outcome), presurgery to 1 year postsurgery (1-year surgical outcome), and splint removal to 1 year postsurgery (postsurgical adaptation). Qualitative evaluations of color maps illustrated the surgical changes and postsurgical adaptations, but only the lower lip showed statistically significant postsurgical adaptations. Soft and hard tissue chin changes were significantly correlated for each of the intervals evaluated: presurgery to splint removal (r = 0.92), presurgery to 1 year postsurgery (r = 0.86), and splint removal to 1 year postsurgery (r = 0.77). A statistically significant correlation between lower incisor and lower lip was found only between presurgery and 1 year postsurgery (r = 0.55). At 1 year after surgery, 31% of the lower lip changes were explained by changes in the lower incisor position while 73% of the soft tissue chin changes were explained by the hard chin. This study suggests that 3D soft tissue response to mandibular advancement surgery is markedly variable.  相似文献

The present study compared the accuracy of three electronic apex locators (EALs) - Elements Diagnostic?, Root ZX? and Apex DSP? - in the presence of different irrigating solutions (0.9% saline solution and 1% sodium hypochlorite). The electronic measurements were carried out by three examiners, using twenty extracted human permanent maxillary central incisors. A size 10 K file was introduced into the root canals until reaching the 0.0 mark, and was subsequently retracted to the 1.0 mark. The gold standard (GS) measurement was obtained by combining visual and radiographic methods, and was set 1 mm short of the apical foramen. Electronic length values closer to the GS (± 0.5 mm) were considered as accurate measures. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were used to verify inter-examiner agreement. The comparison among the EALs was performed using the McNemar and Kruskal-Wallis tests (p < 0.05). The ICCs were generally high, ranging from 0.8859 to 0.9657. Similar results were observed for the percentage of electronic measurements closer to the GS obtained with the Elements Diagnostic? and the Root ZX? EALs (p > 0.05), independent of the irrigating solutions used. The measurements taken with these two EALs were more accurate than those taken with Apex DSP?, regardless of the irrigating solution used (p < 0.05). It was concluded that Elements Diagnostic? and Root ZX? apex locators are able to locate the cementum-dentine junction more precisely than Apex DSP?. The presence of irrigating solutions does not interfere with the performance of the EALs.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: A negative influence of smoking on implant outcomes has been reported. This animal study investigated the influence of cigarette smoke on osseointegration and newly formed bone within implant threads. METHODS: Male Wistar rats were included in the study. After anesthesia, the tibiae surface was exposed and a screw-shaped titanium implant (4.0 mm in length; 2.2 mm in diameter) was placed bilaterally. The animals were randomly assigned to group 1, control, or group 2, intermittent cigarette smoke inhalation. The animals were sacrificed after 60 days and undecalcified sections obtained. The degree of bone-to-implant contact (BIC) and the bone area (BA) within the implant threads were measured in the cortical (zone A) and cancellous bone (zone B) areas. RESULTS: A slight difference in the BIC was noted between the groups, but this was not statistically significant either in zone A or in zone B (Mann-Whitney test, P > 0.05). In contrast, the BA close to the implant significantly decreased in both zones for group 2 (84.73% +/- 4.77 versus 79.85% +/- 6.17, zone A in groups 1 and 2, respectively, and 32.01% +/- 6.62 versus 20.71% +/- 8.57, zone B in groups 1 and 2, respectively, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Within the limits of the present study, intermittent cigarette smoke inhalation may result in a poor bone quality around titanium implants inserted in rats.  相似文献

Objectives:

The antiplaque and antigingivitis effect of Lippia Sidoides (LS) was evaluated in this in vivo investigation.

Material and Methods:

Twenty-three subjects participated in a cross-over, double-blind clinical study, using 21-day partial-mouth experimental model of gingivitis. A toothshield was constructed for each volunteer, avoiding the brushing of the 4 experimental posterior teeth in the lower left quadrant. The subjects were randomly assigned initially to use either the placebo gel (control group) or the test gel, containing 10% LS (test group).

Results:

The clinical results showed statistically significant differences for plaque index (PLI) (p<0.01) between days 0 and 21 in both groups, however only the control group showed statistically significant difference (p<0.01) for the bleeding (IB) and gingival (GI) index within the experimental period of 21 days. On day 21, the test group presented significantly better results than the control group with regard to the GI (p<0.05).

Conclusions:

The test gel containing 10% LS was effective in the control of gingivitis.  相似文献

The aim of this study was evaluate the dimensional stability of some condensation silicones. The following materials were studied: Coltex/Coltoflax - Coltène, Speedex - Coltène, and Optosil Comfort/Xantopren VL Plus - Kulzer. They were evaluated by dimensional analysis and gas chromatography (GC) performed at the following times: T0, T1, T2, T3, T4, and T5 (immediately after setting, thirty minutes, two hours, twenty four hours, seventy two hours, and seven days after setting, respectively). The dimensional changes were measured directly in the molds using a Mitutoyo microscope. The Coltex fine/Coltoflax and Optosil Comfort/Xantopren VL Plus materials presented dimensional stability for up to thirty minutes after molding, while the Speedex material remained stable for up to two hours after molding. The gas chromatography experiment demonstrated that these materials release ethanol even after clinical setting.  相似文献

The aims of this study were to demonstrate the synthesis of an experimental glass ionomer cement (GIC) by the non-hydrolytic sol-gel method and to evaluate its biocompatibility in comparison to a conventional glass ionomer cement (Vidrion R). Four polyethylene tubes containing the tested cements were implanted in the dorsal region of 15 rats, as follows: GI - experimental GIC and GII - conventional GIC. The external tube walls was considered the control group (CG). The rats were sacrificed 7, 21 and 42 days after implant placement for histopathological analysis. A four-point (I-IV) scoring system was used to graduate the inflammatory reaction. Regarding the experimental GIC sintherization, thermogravimetric and x-ray diffraction analysis demonstrated vitreous material formation at 110oC by the sol-gel method. For biocompatibility test, results showed a moderate chronic inflammatory reaction for GI (III), severe for GII (IV) and mild for CG (II) at 7 days. After 21 days, GI presented a mild reaction (II); GII, moderate (III) and CG, mild (II). At 42 days, GI showed a mild/absent inflammatory reaction (II to I), similar to GII (II to I). CG presented absence of chronic inflammatory reaction (I). It was concluded that the experimental GIC presented mild/absent tissue reaction after 42 days, being biocompatible when tested in the connective tissue of rats.  相似文献
